Day 215: Snowboarding in the rain

Thanks to a few friends' desperation and eagerness to ski/ snowboard, we made it to Devil's Head to accomplish this mission and one thing off my bucket list. I didn't expect to snowboard at first, but since I haven't tried snowboard and did ski before, I decided to give it a try. We paid $30 dollars each for a group lesson, and then just explored on our own.

~snowboard~
We went on the baby/ bunny slope and I started halfway of the slope. Snowboarding is so difficult. I had to secure my one foot on the board and move by keep stepping and sliding using the other leg. Then you have to sit on the ice cold snow to secure the other leg. Once you're ready to go, get up and slide down and try to turn with your heels or toes down to control the way. At first, I didn't fall at all. Then when I thought I was ready to challenge the WHOLE baby slope, I went on the escalator and got ready... and yep, fell! Not that I fell with my bum down, I actually turned 180 degrees on the slope (kinda hit my tailbone or bum and it really hurts!). Also, if anything, the rain made it even harder to snowboard because the ground was so slippery that I couldn't control myself and my speed...!

After that, I kept trying and trying and just kept falling and rolling... I fell on my knee (bruised now); I fell on my left arm (hurts now); I fell on my bum (sore now); I used my palm to slow down my speed (bruised too!) I actually crashed into a kid and a father, but the father was nice enough to say "we are all learning here".

Coincidentally, a ski fest was hosted that weekend too! There was a band playing and people were skiing or snowboarding down with some moves and tricks. One of them when going down skiied some snow to band (poor them!)

Some old school menu

Because I was scared, cold, tired and wanted to give up, but I did not!

One reason why I went haha!
Even though I was a newbie and just kept hurting myself, I enjoyed it. I took the courage and time out to take this chance and challenge myself with something new. I'm glad I did because I don't know when I will be doing this again if I do go back to Hong Kong for good. It's one of those Midwest experience!
