Last year today was when I found out that I got matched to Rush for my dietetic internship. Can't believe next year today, I would be done with my internship and closer to become a RD.. how time flies.
This week is the week where we put everything together - mainly just talking to patients and charting on them by ourselves. I've been thinking a lot this week... I know nutrition and lifestyle eventually play a big role in people's lives, but in a hospital setting, it's more difficult. A way we need people to change is to start now instead of waiting for the problem to come up and then solve it. Be proactive, instead of reactive.
Anyway, seeing patient is less nerve wrecking now, but I still need to work on my motivational interviewing and nutrition education. That's the least I can do to help a patient to change!
I had one cranky patient and she yelled at me and the medical team altogether. I don't blame her because she couldn't find the solution to her medical problem. But... people need to be more appreciative.
