Day 153: touching piece
A short status from Sotear, who I met during my internship in Texas.
"Today I met an elderly couple who has been married for 58 years. Both are 78 years old. The husband is confined to a wheel chair and has limited use of his arms but he still takes care of his wife who has Alzheimer's (who is pretty much confined to her bed). When I asked if there was anything that I can do for him, he replied "We could really use help with buying depends because it costs a couple of hundred dollars a month." He also said that even though he takes care of his wife everyday, "It feels like we just met yesterday and I have no regrets, I would do it all over again. I just wish I can make use of my legs so I could do more." I held back my tears. It always bogs my mind how much you can do with so little. To all those with significant others, ask yourselves, "what is my definition of love and if I was stripped from it all, will I still make it work?" Evaluate, assess, and define what is important to you."
