Day 39: Day 1 of MOWI

Today was the first day of my internship! I have finally met Lilly who I had an interview with and Sherry the Nutrition Service Coordinator. Also, I had met other interns and Dietitians in the company. I had read some reflection of MOWI and the past interns had said that Sherry is very intelligent, bright and has high expectations of every intern. Looking at the sheet of projects that we will need to complete in eight weeks, I was very overwhelmed. We had to apply to become job managers for the projects (kinda felt like project runway now :P). I know that many interns felt the same way as I am.

I am amazed with the diversity within the group. There are Vietnamese, Cambodian, Brazilian and me! Someone lives with goats on a 7 acre of farm lol. Not all of them are undergraduate, some are graduates who are pursuing a Masters degree. I am very excited to see how we can contribute to Meals On Wheels! I'm just very worried and afraid that I will disappoint Lilly and Sherry. They said the group of interns last year was not as strong as the years before and they did not use the work they had done during their internship. I hope it does not turn out like that. Therefore, I have to be organized starting NOW!

During lunch, we had a webinar (like seminar) about added sugar. I thought the presentation was kind of biased due to its funding by Coca Cola. If I wasn't mistaken, the presentation was saying that if you only look at fructose itself (as it is in fruits as well), there is no conclusion that it causes diabetes. Well, I agree too because diabetes is not caused by one thing, but a lot of things. However, to decrease fructose itself would be a great milestone for those.
