Day 40: Day 2 in MOWI
Got to the office at 8:30am, settled into my seat, talked for a while with the interns, and then people just go off to work on things they need to do. Two interns went to see some clients for the MOW qualification and the other intern worked on HAIL project. Five of us just sat around the intern table and started our assignment - Investigate routes on how you can become a Dietitian or DTR and your goals in 1 year, 5 years and 10 years. While we were working on it, we kind of discuss about our future. Everyone came here with a different background on how each was getting their DI. I was kind of hopeful with my future with this internship and my okay grade, but now I felt hopeless about my path after that discussion.
This assignment had made me focus on what I want to emphasize in DI. I looked at all the schools with the different emphasis. I mainly chose clinical nutrition for my emphasis. That might change in the future though.
I got project manager for the Time and Temperature Studies/ Site Visits. I'm excited!

edit:
Even though we were being very unproductive, we talked a lot about the present and the future. Many people are older than me, so they had a lot of experience. I really enjoyed the discussion we have and things we have in common. Sotear (the oldest girl I think) said that people are ignorant about what dietitians do. They don't even know what dietetics is. Once we said nutrition, then people will ask, "oh so what should I eat now?" Everyone is just mad when they hear that question because seriously, that's not all we do. And how am I supposed to tell you what to eat on the spot. Even if I did, you probably won't listen anyway. I think a good answer to that (from Sotear) is "not dirt for sure" lol.

what's DI and DTR? and so what exactly dietitans do?
ReplyDeleteMost people have a knee-jerk reaction to issues they are uneducated, but have heard a little, about. It's like when I mention yoga practice, the first responses are "oh, I'm not flexible" or "how can I lose weight doing yoga?" Yoga has nothing to do with weight loss or flexibility, lol. So I know what you mean!
ReplyDeleteI also want to know what dietitians do. Please educate us!
